Choose Your Root Type
Our Alder (Alnus glutinosa) trees are available in two root formats, so you can choose the option that best suits your planting season, project and budget.
Bare Root Alder Trees
Available seasonally, typically from November to March, bare root Alder trees are field-grown and lifted during dormancy with their roots exposed and soil-free.
They offer a cost-effective option for woodland, wet-ground and larger-scale planting projects, and establish particularly well in suitable moist conditions.
Rootball Alder Trees
Rootball Alder trees are supplied with a firm ball of soil retained around the roots and wrapped in hessian for protection during lifting and transport.
This format is particularly suitable for larger, more established trees and projects where greater immediate landscape impact is required.
Available Sizes & Girth
Our Alder trees are graded by girth (trunk circumference), a standard method used for established landscape trees. Girth provides a useful indication of the maturity and structure of the tree, helping you select the most appropriate size for your project.
